This is a good sprawling epic, but for those of us who actually know some of this you have to question how you can encounter British troops in Eastern Poland and then walk all the way to Dunkirk! And the gay subplot seems very contrived. Nor would someone canned by the Foreign Office show up weeks later as a British army officer, class prejudice not withstanding. Clunky exposition of events that did indeed happen, and for those old enough to remember Rumor of War and Winds of War, Robert Mitchum as the oldest recruit in the navy, its time for another of these!
