There’s a weird plot to this movie and everyone seems to blame Akeem for actions he had no control over. I’ve seen the first Coming to America countless times so I was very excited to watch the conclusion of Akeem’s story but this story is all over the place. The first movie had a very simple, straightforward plot where Akeem is looking for his bride. This movie focuses on the son becoming royalty, the commander guy threatening Akeem, Akeems father dying, the daughters struggles with not being first in line, etc. These plots aren’t necessarily fleshed out so it’s very rushed. The main thing I can’t get over is that Akeem is assaulted under the influence of drugs (after he was forced to take them) yet everyone in the movie blames him for what happened. As a huge fan of the original and a fan of Eddie Murphy, I was really disappointed
