I’m very disappointed that you are promoting Ableism. Regarding editing of the big NY City Central Park Wedding: Your editors chose the include the Georgia Bride saying, “The first time he sees her is in a wheelchair. That makes me so sad!”. What this really says is, “If someone uses a wheelchair, it is sad. If someone gets married in a wheelchair, it is sad. Disabled people are sad, even when they get married. Someone shouldn’t get married if they use a wheelchair.”
I don’t expect you to understand, but please know that disability discrimination will continue as long as these attitudes are advertised. Please stop stereotyping disabilities as sad.
Also, where was the ADA accessibility? What was your plan for someone with a physical disability or would they be excluded or put to the side without the grand entrance? Did you even think about it?
Shame on you!
