I loved the book. Almost never do you read a love story between a man who has endured lifelong denigrating and abuse, and an intelligent creature.He so loves this beautiful creature he will never own, that it gives him reason and clarity in his life. Certainly people usually love their pets, but seldom do we spend the time or the effort to actually understand them. This man understands his horse and respects him as the animal he truly is. The horse understands the man truly loves and respects him.

Unless you are an architect yourself, the details and every minute problem with The Chicago Worlds Fair in the 1893 will exhaust you and try your patience endlessly. The contrast between the enormous achievement of the fair and the murderous planning of the murders is striking, but the reader must pay for that with nearly endless patience

Felt like being in this neighborhood personally. It was an adventure in a book, and I couldn’t put it down. As usual with this author the characters came to life quickly and were complex and always interesting if everything they did might not be admirable all the time (as who is).
