I’m usually a fan of Kingsolver-The Bean Trees was excellent. But, gosh was this book disappointing. The characters were over generalized and predictable, the dialogue was faulty and unbelievable, and the political narrative was only representative of white, middle-class liberals who have the privilege of JUST discovering that the world is pretty well screwed-then they proceed to report this to us as if it is brand new information. Tig is a self righteous, racially appropriating wanna be hippie. Willa is so clueless and sheltered that she actually thinks SHE (an educated, straight, white woman) is representative of poverty. Iano and Zeek are hardly even characters, and Nick is an uninteresting, dated racist who only serves the purpose of making the other characters seem woke. The entire thing makes me scoff. This garbage representation of the post Trump crisis is only relevant to brainless, clueless, privileged, white pseudo-liberals.
