I went to the theatre hoping to get an insight into the former Philippines First Lady as, what the title says, The Kingmaker. Main question in my mind was, “Why is she now called a Kingmaker?”
I ended up disappointed and disgusted. Its focus was on a lot of things other than Imelda Marcos. She was shown as an aging woman unable to move around unaided, with cheeks as round and tight as a Chinese bun or siopao. I expected a little analysis of her personality to better understand who she is and why she is who she is, but there was hardly any.
Instead, there was a lot of bytes from the country’s political scenes and the slums of Manila, including Smokey Mountain. Those scenes left a bad taste in the mouth.
