Amazing cast depicting an idyllic world of scientific cooperation. I studied geology and even took a planetary geology course long ago and I have followed the space program all my life, even had a friend who flew in Space Shuttle Atlantis... Ellen Baker. Knowing the recent physical landscape revealed by actual landings on the Martian surface the relief depicted in the movie is too extreme. The space heroics in the movie are fun but unrealistic.
I really think that people like Elon Musk have an unrealistic view of the perils of travel to Mars and back. His dream of a city on the Martian surface seems ridiculous. I support our work to build a new space station and even travel back to the Moon to explore further. But we also have to realize that Earth is our evolutionary home and if I were as wealthy as Musk I would focus my energy and money on solving our climate change crisis. It is our greatest threat and we are past the tipping point of controlling atmospheric CO2. We need to take dollars away from space and direct them toward carbon capture and helping all nations to stop using fossil fuels. Otherwise we will acidify our oceans and cook our atmosphere reducing life back to minute organisms living around seafloor vents !
