"The Most Dangerous Game" has a profound message for those who want see it. This was a reading assignment for my seventh-grade class many years ago; in the United States, this means most of us were 12 years old, rather naive, and quite stunned at the plot. Our insightful teacher, Mr. Lee, continued our discussion, answered our questions, and helped us see this for what it is: Man's inhumanity to man. That was in 1962, but still, I remember.
