My immediate reaction to Bette Midler's scene was, "this explains why I do not now, and never will, understand hard-right bigotry. But, this scene attempts to define it as a kind of jealous, victim stance. That version of hatred I do understand, so, with varying degrees of success, "Coastal Elites" attempts to illuminate "the other", what I perceive to be "evil" in terms that make me laugh rather than tear my hair out! On the other hand, Issa Rae's fictional account of her college time with Ivanka Trump was exactly what I'd imagined the mind of a privileged, white, Trump-progeny to be!! Loved this! Will watch again! Recommended it to my sister who is a freedom-loving Democrat like myself!!!
