This movie was more than a "companion piece" to The Lion King. It was a powerful message especially to black people about reconnecting to your roots and ancestry. Also, like she said in promos for the visual album, Beyonce wanted to so that Black can be and is synonymous with wealth (not exclusive to the monetary meaning) and richness. Whereas from the moment you are born, it's taught to you that Black is equal to struggle/poverty. It will take multiple views to really grasp everything from this film. Symbolism is everywhere. You know the art is good when it causes discussion/debate.
