Surprisingly, this is a laugh-out-loud character comedy. Its two leads are written with cartoonish zeal, but given real heart by the brilliant Mortensen and Ali. This likeable odd couple rescue a film that could otherwise have been a train-wreck of cliches and bathos. The result is affecting and humorous - highly recommended.

A simple and familiar tale of personal passion butting up against family obligation, Uncorked is elevated above its pedestrian promise by the compelling father-son relationship at its heart. Some other characters feel less than fully 3 dimensional, but the film's pacing and the appeal of the protagonist are enough to carry it through to a satisfying finish.
