I see people saying it's about female empowerment and such. It's done actually pretty well. But it suffers the same fate like the other female empowering movies; giving real character development. When Mulan leaves her family it's like she doesn't even care. And through her journey she finds herself stuck in the middle of nowhere and oh, a phoenix. Well nice seeing you I'm going now bye. She does it with so little emotion aswell. In the fight where Mulan chases the 'bad guys' she loses them and can't find them. Witch woman comes around talks about her identity and giving a bit of backstory to her character. Oh look Mulan gets hit by a throwing knife , ok. And suddenly she wakes up not having a wound. There isn't a medal, or an object of importance to the story that blocked that like it typically would. Throws her hair loose and her armor (kinda stupid considering there's a war breaking loose) takes her horse and begings fighting the army. This review is throwing random things here and there but that's how I feel in when I watched the movie. The plot moves forward with little motivation and feels so rushed. Mulan's friends (whose names I can't remember) aren't needed in the story and you don't care about them because they don't have a story to make you relate to them.
Her having chi and hiding it is a silly concept really. She fears it would show her real self (or something), but why suddenly show it when sparring with the guy whose name I can't remember.
There are more things wrong with Mulan in my opinion but I won't go further. The rest of the reviews speak for themselves. 30$ for this movie? Not worth it. Not a bit. Makes me want to watch the original again.
