*Warning - Spoilers* I start with praising the gameplay. Graphics are immense and the attention to detail is absolutely amazing. The gameplay follows suit and has many engaging action scenes, where the user can choose from a variety of different weapons and methods to slay enemies. Unfortunately, the story lacks the same effort. The characters you loved from the previous game are gone. Furthermore, the new additions such as Abby are just boring. I found myself dragging through her hours of gameplay, disinterested throughout, just wanting to get back to Ellie and her story. Next, it seems the characters make absolutely stupid decisions, such as joel trusting abby without knowing her, Ellie sparing Abbys life and Tommy requesting Ellies help to kill Abby after trying to protect her early on in the game, telling his wife to lock up Ellie. The story seems to push some sort of message that men are weak with alot of the main male characters being useless throughout. Here are some examples; . Joel being killed by Abby . Tommys wife asking Ellie to bring back her 'useless husband' . Jesse being killed by Abby . Tommy being man handled by Abby . Tommy asking Ellie to fight his battle . Isaac being killed by Yara Overall, the game is a kick in the teeth of anyone who loved the first. A great shame considering the gameplay is actually very good. However, since this is the sort of game that relies almost entirely on narrative, its impossible to give it a good rating. Metaphorically speaking, the game is a beautifully presented gift which when opened reveals a smelly turd. Dont bother playing.
