Okay so first off, didn’t have high expectations, but still dramatically disappointed. Honestly shocked at how bad a movie could be. The script was questionable and even the climax it still felt like exposition. I literally couldn’t tell you the plot of the movie if I tried.
So there was this journalist and his niece who had pretty nasty asthma. And for some reason this is because she has the heart of a mermaid, not that they ever tell you what that is or why it’s important. Like why did evil magician man want to kidnap her so badly??? She didn’t have power until she almost killed Elizabeth??? And at the end of the movie she was like “I believe” and we were like I KNOW you’ve been telling us the whole movie!! Then suddenly mermaid gal baptized her in the ocean and she’s like YOU’RE CURED, but not really because you still had to swim to stop coughing.
Also the plot holes in this movie were astounding. Okay so at the beginning of the movie the journalist and his niece really had British accents but by the end of they movie they really didn’t. Ok actually ten minutes in they lost it. Then Cam kept switching back and forth, like are you British honestly can’t tell any more. Also the girl blinked all of five times during the entire movie, we counted. WHY DIDN’T SHE BLINK? Was because she had the heart of a mermaid? Did her asthma make it difficult? Also four out of the five times she blinked was in one scene. Then Cam has to jump into the ocean to follow mermaid gal, and to prepare he took off his suspenders, and his suspenders only. Not his shirt, not his pants, not even his shoes. But he didn’t even take them all the way off, he just slipped them over his shoulders. And then once he was in the water, THEY WERE BACK ON FOR SOME REASON. Also what is with characters running into water fully clothed in this movie??? Like wet socks are uncomfortable man.
They really never introduced any characters or gave any back story. Like all of a sudden they’re living in this lady’s house and she’s totally chill with it. Then physic lady just appeared. So did werewolf man. Suddenly they were there and they really didn’t have names for no good reason. Also why didn’t they escape before if the evil bro didn’t have anything to keep them there? Like why wait for Elizabeth other than it’s convenient for the plot of the movie (if you can call it a plot)? And what was up with the magic water? Like it was a plot point for two seconds and was never explained? Did it actually work? We’ll never know! Also if the lady froze time, why was the train unfrozen? So confusing!
I can’t believe this movie was made in 2018, the special effects looked like they were from the 1800s and yes I’m aware they didn’t have special effects then. Who approved this movie? Who WROTE this movie? It feels like a school project that was done at 2am the night before without editing. And let me tell you I would give it an F. I had higher expectations from America’s government and movie industry.
