Movie: 3.5/5, Plot: 2.8, Performances: 5/5, Direction: 4.5/5
An enthralling watch and visual spectacle, with great performances with a below-par plot and a few meh moments.
This movie is one of the rare opportunities a studio like Marvel would want to take no matter the risks. Marvel is in a position to take a risk like The Eternals and we couldn't be happier. Unlike DC where they don't want to take risks like New Gods or The Trench(was heartbroken when they canceled them).
Spoilers Ahead. The Plot.
The plot is simple Eternals are sent to Earth by Celestial Arishem to eliminate The Deviants so that Human life could continue on Earth. Deviants were sent to Earth by Celestial Arishem to eliminate a few Predatory species so that Human life could continue on Earth. At least that's what we are told, but Arishem has a sinister purpose(or maybe not, depends on whose side you're on). Celestials plant Celestial seeds in Planets core so that new celestials can be born by consuming/destroying( I don't know how that works) life on that planet. But for that to work population on the planet should reach a certain limit so the celestial can consume the energy of that planet(again I don't know how that works).
The Eternals(most of them) don't know this as their memories are wiped out after every mission(destruction of planets). And it seems The Snap that brought back everyone from the dead is also the reason for the impending doom about to fall on Earth. They say the Snap provided the energy for the Emergence to begin. What that means is Earth's time is up and we're doomed. The rest of the movie is how a typical Marvel movie plays out but with a sensible touch of Chloé Zhao.
There are a few takeaways from the movie, we get introduced to new characters like Pip the Troll, Eros brother of Thanos, Black Knight, and Blade.
