I've always wondered why there's a dearth of movies depicting the period after Christ till the Roman empire accepted Christianity. It's one of the greatest miracles in history - a group of persecuted people, hunted down and murdered in gruesome ways for 300 years, make a mighty empire accept Christ by just their example of love, forgiveness and faith, and sacrifice.
I mean, I can think of one in recent times - Risen. It is because these accounts aren't exactly screenplay material that meet today's cinematic demands of swashbuckling heroism - fight, action, revenge, victory!
So, thank the cast and crew for making this movie. It may be slow, but not boring; the dialogues are powerful; and it provides a strong insight into the lives, thoughts and convictions of Paul and other early Christians, and the Romans.
As a Roman soldier says in the movie: "You don't make a man your leader just because he trips and falls in the road, and then travels around a bit, and says a few things. There must be more to the story." Watch the film to know what. It's not just a Christian faith film. It also has a message that holds true for today's times - love, forgiveness, faith. Oh wait, that IS what Jesus said! ;)
