While it’s better than the M. Night Shyamalan adaptation, that’s not saying much. The story, character arcs, and even some character motivations have been fundamentally changed, while other minor details (Cabbage man, certain lines directly from the cartoon) have been kept to maintain some semblances to the original. I know a few people were upset about the decision to remove Sokka’s sexism, as it contributes to a big part of his character development. I was more upset with what they did to Pakku. They just made him a spiteful old man that stood in the way of any sort of progress, and honestly just used him as a sub-antagonist. No redemption, no lesson, no realization that some traditions are dated. Just a make him the bad guy who doesn’t even teach the avatar how to water-bend.
