I found it a bit better than many of the aggregate review sites may lead you to believe. It is certainly far from the original as a film goes, however, I found its odd disjointedness weirdly very watchable. The first two acts are simply filled with multiple layered sup plots almost all of which go nowhere. One would think this very off putting but, for me at least, it was almost like watching the darkest ever "Monty Python's Flying Circus" episode. The third act was probably the weakest as it never really found any depth of dread or horror and once wandered precariously close to an unnamed worn trope but it did manage to recover its footing nicely as it wrapped up. Yes, this should be looked at as a companion piece to "The Wicker Man" but even more so I see it as a very direct ancestor to Ari Aster's amazing "Midsommer".
