This remake was unnecessary. Boring characters, boring plot, boring genie.
They try to "improve" the character of Jasmine and make her more "empowered" and "independent". They think that the main motivation of Jasmine in the animated classic was to find a perfect man to marry. She was actually lonely, wasn't allowed to get out of the castle and was forced to marry someone against her will. All she wanted was freedom, to get out of the castle, to be valued for the person she is, to make her own choices, to not be lonely.
Aladdin wasn't that interesting but the worst offender has to be Jaffar. He was boring and felt like he was bored himself. He had no charisma, no screen presence, wasn't menacing or scary. In the original he was scary to watch, he had charisma. In this remake he delivered his lines like he was bored.
This isn't everything I have to say about the movie but I couldn't gather my thoughts and kept forgetting what I had to say.
I wouldn't really recommend this, just go and re-watch the original.
