Disturbingly racist and upsetting. A real window in American attitudes on race by how popular this was. Shocking and not so shocking to know this was an incredibly adored movie, (even screened at the white house) and was shown in theaters for a over a decade. It’s credited for the resurgence of the KKK and for huge rise in hate crimes and lynchings of black people. We should both be ashamed of this movie and ensure everyone understands what the unrivaled enthusiasm for it says about us as a society.
