Hats off to the director bringing perspective to the plight of female characters shown in the movie. The concept of degrading women in the domestic setting is shown realistically. This I believe is not about just the moment the lady is slapped ,though that is the tipping point. It has layers ,it's the complexity of the relationship where she is somewhat considered to be just a helper there for everyone in the house, who can be taken for granted and when needed She is not seen as an equal human being with her own mind and she desires to be understood and respected too.As the plot brews, the characters head towards taking steps in the right direction to heal themselves and feel whole again.I truly like how Anubhav Sinha depicts the quandary the girl's family faces and the love/tender moments between father and daughter. It is honestly a page from real life.A commendable film that needed guts to make as also to accept. It should make society think and act more responsibly. The film perhaps also gives the message to those who are yet to marry to be vested in each other's best interests and seek to understand or else issues knowingly /unknowingly snowball like this one and a Thappad becomes the final straw.
