I don't usually make reviews, but this show is way too overrated and I really wanted to express my shame. I want to begin by saying I never read the book, and I could only sit through 4 episodes.
Now first off, I understand this is a fiction, but this was a bit historically inaccurate and some parts don't even make sense.. like an example would be in the first episode. They literally played instrumental versions of cringe modern songs, like of Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. It was absolute pure cringe whenever they got something wrong. It also felt unrealistic, I mean I like these romantic historical fictions, but these was literally atleast two scenes in every episode where two characters would randomly make love. Speaking of characters, these characters literally have no personality.. even the queen has more personality than any of these trash main characters.
Now my second point is that this show is too slow.. I could care less about fiction, even though it does feel unrealistic. I was sitting silently, waiting for action to happen almost the entire time, but it's just so slow... this is why I wasted four hours of my life. I waited patiently for action to happen.. it was just so rare, but whenever action happened, it felt so amazing. Honestly, the only fun parts were the search for that writer person, that plan between the duke and girl was also only interesting for one episode.
and now my third and final main point is that this show is way too romanticized.. it's really hard to watch. Yeah I get this is a romantic historical fiction, and I usually like these, but can you please add any other topic to this series? It's all just "oh who am I gonna marry today" this and that chatter. There's no mention regarding the public, and its all just romantic drama we see in other movies. The only mention of the public out of the entire 4 episodes I watched was when they went outdoors and saw the public, people working and then the mom said something about if she didn't marry, she would end up like them..
In conclusion, I admit I liked the first two episodes, however the moments I liked were usually instantly ruined by something either cringe worthy or the unrealistic vibe or maybe a slow dialogue that nobody cares about right after. I also watched a little bit of episode 5 and it was literal pain to watch it at that point. Episode 4 and 3 were also a bit painful but I managed to actually get through it too luckily.
