There's a reason why this musical is a classic: not only is the music phenomenal and hits you just where it needs to, but the story is magnificently visceral. Once I began to research this musical more, I learned that the story was based on an actual occurrence, so of course it would feel real: it WAS real. Where this film flourishes where others may fall short is all in presentation: Rogers and Hammerstein managed to create a masterpiece and make me feel that these characters were real people even before I knew that it was based on a true story. I adore this show and I would recommend it to anybody who hasn't seen it yet.
