Internalized racism and the misrepresentation of black skin:
I saw a good attention-grabbing horror movie at first, but then I saw signs of colorism, favoritism, and internalized racism on the โbig screenโ. This type of behavior is the latest trend in the movie production industry, when targeting black audiences. What I saw (you more than likely will too) is the result of the deep-seeded beliefs and cruel attitudes of dark and brown skin women in black target movies by design.
Let us be clear here.
This is another obvious โblack target movieโ that followed a destructive approach intended to disregard dark / brown skinned women.
To the movie directors and producers, please stop making these other race ladiesโ hair fuller with the typical curl pattern (b/c that is the only way to make them โlook blackโ), it definitely recognizable.
The portrayal of "another race woman" with make-up, younger, โprettierโ (in their eyes) in the place of a dark or brown-skinned woman in our own movies. SMH. This just lacks respect for the dark/brown skinned woman and is toxic, hurtful, dangerous, wounding, detrimental, and injurious to ALL dark or brown skinned woman. JUST STOP!
The portrayal of dark / brown skinned women had attitudes, older, no make-up, outdated afro, or a scarf wrapped around their heads. I hate to see that our own black movies have gone to โnew lowsโ, itโs just not โour ownโ no more.
Key takeaway: The key takeaway was dark / brown skin woman are not wanted, but light-skinned (different race) women are in black families and communities. Which is not an accurate depiction of reality.
To all my dark and brown-skinned ladies, they still do not compare to one beautiful one of us.
