One of the few pre world war 2 movies about the rise of nazism Stewart is at his best, Sullivan is captivating and teams up with Robert young after the 2 of them were in another great pre ww2 movie set in Germany -Three comrades- timeless movie. Watched it first 50 years ago . Watch it now and still as moving as it was back then.

Outstanding in every way. Dassin,the director, also plays the safecracker, and was forced to move and work in France due to the Hollywood Communist blacklist in the ‘50, The robbery. Scene, without any dialog, lasts over 10 minutes! Can you imagine any director being able to pull that off today. If you don’t watch it you will denying yourself the pleasure of enjoying IMO perhaps the best caper film ever made
