The Garfield Show: Threat of the Space Lasagna has truly represented the key elements in the interactive entertainment industry. It has shown the loss of a serious cause that can represent our contemporary society as it stands today. The game cleverly pursues the narrative about Garfield, Odie, and Squeak having to battle against the alien lasagna that is willing to take over the world. You, the player chooses whether to play as Garfield and valiantly halt the regime of the space lasagna from taking over the world whilst also fighting Squeak's mind-controlled family; or to play as the space lasagna and work against Garfield who is trying to stop their plans. This can truly compensate with what our society struggles with today. The space lasagna's own vendetta against the brave warrior (Garfield) constructs the own fabrication of our mentality towards propaganda and how the media is able to control the masses with one collective goal. This could be referred to the harsh incentive to control the world through a series of powerful entities.
Garfield has shown me how to go forward on that pursuit to question those in power that can essentially differentiate the mentality of a patriot and a nationalist. A quote from the game the moment Garfield had elimenated Squeak's family through a violent and burtal gun fight states; “The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war.” Nationalism creates the loyalty for a country that is bonded so strongly, the people in that country tend to ignore the tainted areas where improvement can be implemented. This includes the mindset to the belief that nothing in the world is flawed. This creates a dilemma into seeing that although the people who are loyal to their leader’s role in their country, the leaders however do not view the same thought of having loyalty for those in the country. Having total faith in their leaders can result in very drastic repercussions. To counter this dilemma, as seen from the conclusion from The Garfield Show: Threat of the Space Lassagna, the system of ensuring all powers are continually questioned and criticised accurately. This is to reinforce the suspicion of one power shifting to a single party with the chance to shift powers to one single leader. To make certain that this does not occur, those that seek to properly question and criticise a leader’s certain belief will favour in protecting the entire nation.
This heavily entails that no matter what the Space Lasagna raises that pursuit on the masses, Garfield will always be tenacious to deter that mentality on the overall consumption of the world.
Truly a masterpiece that transcends all interactive entertainment.
