I love french films and I love good movies and this movie is neither.
1. Can any movie with 10+minutes of explicit sex scenes be not a porn? The acting is ok, but the story is very simple predictable and shallow. A lot of scenes were shot to highlight visuals. But unlike good french movies, the details donโt add anything to the story, and itโs not particularly pretty anyway. The photography and scenery were also just ok. Overall a huge disappointment, especially because the film drags down a simple and banal story for 3 long hours, a story that could haven been told in a short movie.
2. Maybe the movie is good if you have no insight on lesbian/gay culture. But again, I thought it was very superficial and didnโt address many complex themes. It was just another boring simple romantic story of โgirl falls in love with troubleโ except this time trouble was another girl instead of a man.
3. The cinematography was trying too hard and in doing so it was pretentious and confusing. The meta-criticism inside the movie and philosophical conversation was again only interesting if you are unfamiliar with the topic. It was otherwise superficial and simple. Name dropping of philosophers and artists doesnโt make it a deep movie and doesnโt mean the characters are deep ones. Not to say that it would be a good introduction to philosophy, or lesbian culture, but again, I have the feeling that this movie is particularly bad at it.
4. No character development, the main character suffers from a shallow simple obsession, perhaps even, dependent personality disorder and the other character also possibly suffers from a personality disorder and thatโs from beginning to end, no development or anything.
5. A sad story and a waste of 3 hours. If you donโt know anything about lesbian culture or love stories or philosophy then this movie might be interesting to you, otherwise itโs just a very weird and sad and long lesbian porn movie that reminds me of how much I hated high school.
