I had my doubts, because True Detective shouldโve really taken it off as a series. After watching a couple years of Nordic noir, and killer British mysteries, it is even hard to this day to find an American equivalent. They know how to weave a story, Keep you guessing, edge of your seat, great character development, and music and this Iโm happy to say, Has a lot of the components. I have no idea whatโs going on which is OK because the two characters are so strong and even the supporting characters are Interesting and sometimes funny and tough as the tundra as you would find in Alaska. Jodie Foster is tough as nails as Darwin (great name and very prophetic) and it looks like she has had to go through a lot to keep her wits about her so far. Considering sheโs dealing with spiritual and paranormal issues that are way beyond logic and really interesting, almost believable, and very true to the culture of the indigenous people. Her sidekick although they are at odds at first, helps her navigate the deep legends of her people. She doesnโt scoff, she knows she can use it somehow to find the answers she needs. Especially jarring was the woman (brilliant actress) gutting a reindeer entrails flapping, it suddenly bucks a little and she knows her dead husband will appear. He shows her the way to the next horror show crime scene to be solved. Letโs just say the victimโs expressions are frozen in terror. Itโs only episode one and I want to watch it again In case I missed something. You canโt look away from this one.
