Episode 1-5 Spoilers ahead!
Firstly, Iโve never read the books, so these comments are from someone with no background on the original story.
Okโฆ So Gale is a one of the most intelligent mathematicians in the *entire* universe, yet she grows up on a planet that never lets her actually study math or any other subject? Did she learn math through osmosis? Did she get a math chip implanted in her brain? Because last I checked, you canโt learn anything well without actually studying it for many, many years with books, tutors, and teachers (or YouTube). Are we supposed to actually buy that she became a brilliant math genius by swimming to the bottom of the sea and digging up one single book about math and then writing nonsense scribbles on spacepaper? The origin of Galeโs mathematical brilliance is major plot hole (among others), and itโs only gotten bigger with episode 5โs flimsy backstory about her.
Furthermore, the whole premise of the Foundation makes no sense. They need to go to some far-off planet to save humanityโs knowledge? They need to decide what information will be saved and what wonโt? Do they not have computers, internet, teraflops of redundant solid state or cloud storage (or Google?!) to capture all these things?
I want to love this show, but itโs just not very well written or thought out. They clearly want to make a GOT meets Star Wars, but the characters are one-dimensional and cliche. The sex scenes are pointless and vanilla. They use cheap cliffhangers to try to get you back for the next episode, but you donโt really care about any of the characters because theyโre so flat. And to make it worse, the acting often feels so bad that it keeps you from getting fully-immersed in what looks like one of the most visually beautiful sci-fi shows ever made.
