OED has been the principal standard for dictionaries for almost 2 centuries now, and every time I refer to one of them, I realize why it gained the admiration and scholarly backing it did; it simply puts things into perspective by giving concise meanings, historical backgrounds, and sentence usages. I love to use it and recommend it to anybody who wishes to use a proper dictionary that suits all of their needs.
