I thought the movie would've been far more interesting from the runaway's perspective. Not sure why they chose to center the story around Kendrick's character, whose role is so minimal in the grand scheme of things that it's misleading to call her the "woman of the hour". As this was based on a true story, there are many opportunities to explore Alcala's motivation and back story. Instead, we see snippets of his interactions with some of his victims. His appearance on the dating show didn't seem relevant or necessary to the story as nothing really happens. Notes at the end of the movie fill us in as to what happens to Alcala after he is finally arrested. Even those notes could've made for a more interesting offering in the movie than the focus on Kendrick's character.
