Watched the movie for the first time today and it really got me. Tom Hanks never disappoints and this movie yet again proves this fact.
Spoiler alert!!
The movie goes way deeper than just a person's struggles in surviving on an island for 5 years. It all begins when Chuck leaves his love to
board a FredEx delivery plane that crashes right in the middle of pacific killing all the crew except Chuck who somehow survives and ends up on a solitary island. Then starts his struggle to survive alone without food and shelter. Feeling alone and cast away he makes himself a friend and names him Wilson out of a volleyball that drifted to the shore packed in one of the boxes. He frequently looks at the photo of his love like she is with him and he believes he will be able to meet her one day.
After surviving on the island for 5 years, he returns to his country only to find out that things aren't the way he had left them and that his love is married to someone and all of a sudden he experiences the same feeling of being cast away that he experienced on the island despite being surrounded by people. But he knows what to do, he needs to breathe every day just like he did on the island because who knows what the next tide might bring.
Towards the end he feels a new hope and positivity towards life.
