the story is set around Blackpool and Cheshire so how come apart from James Nesbitt's Ulster accent everyone talks Estuary English?

I thought it was excellent, well acted - the period scenes in Cambridge in the late 30's had a really authentic touch - Judy Dench was brilliant as always. The begrudging critics mainly didnt like it but i guess they are jaded from too many films and they are paid not to enjoy anything!
