Having only discovered Matt D'Avella on the first day of this year through YouTube, I decided to give this documentary a go because I liked his videos. I thought it was good and well presented on my first viewing but after watching their original documentary straight after, I realised how unnecessary and repetitive this newer one was. For two guys who preach about the need for less, two documentaries that are exactly the same and one that feels more like a cash grab than anything is a bit ironic.
Overall, I think they're message is good but the focus on them as personalities tarnishes the film more than it enhances. Matt is an incredible filmmaker and his YouTube channel is very much worth the watch as he puts out an excellently well-produced new little film almost every week. The Minimalists themselves are worth following but their initial documentary is a better viewing experience for it's more natural pace and execution.
