It is easily Mark Ruffalo’s best performance to date, including “Spotlight” and “Foxcatcher”... both standout roles.
The HBO limited series hasn’t yet concluded, but is a must-watch program, during a pandemic, or otherwise. Ruffalo’s dual role (he plays identical twins) is complimented nicely by Phillip Ettinger’s dual portrayal of the younger version of the same siblings. A well written adaptation of a fictional novel, the series highlights mental health issues, and the impact on families.
Rosie O’Donnell is very good as the brothers’ care giver, and Juliet Lewis delivers a predictable, and forgettable, turn as a potential love interest. It’s only part way through, and she’s already re-appeared as the younger lover of an elderly hospital roommate of one of the twins... sheesh.
Anyway, dismiss that 90’s casting throwback, and sometimes distracting non-linear storyline, and instead relish in Ruffalo’s mastery... look forward to all that he will serve up during this series, and in future, non-superhero, roles!
It wasn’t too long ago that Ruffalo was the “Hulk”, and supported Tom Cruise and Jim Carey in leading roles... and also Jesse Eisenberg? To be fair... Americans also made Steve Guttenberg a star, and elected Donald Trump, so go figure.
