This book is a must read for anyone who is an indigenous person of the Pacific. If Disney's Moana felt like a fantasy where she held her hand in the air and decided she was going that way - this book teaches the hard science behind the ancient tohunga form of wayfaring by the ancient star houses.
You cannot help but be in awe of the vision of all behind Hōkūle'a. Especially to have believed enough to undertake such a mission in the highly colonised 70s. She is an inspirational as Ngā Tamatoa here in Aotearoa.
This book has an even wider reach though and will probably appeal to anyone who loves going to sea.
