Jerry Seinfeld, a true comedian, said once that he doesn't do political humor because it is "low lying fruit" that requires little to no talent. Oddly enough, that is all Colbert has. The fact that people consider him a "reliable news source" explains a lot. There is nothing funny or news worthy in this low lying fruit. And for a comedian he sure comes off as a bitter and angry man.
