I just watched this movie again tonight. Stunning photography in stunning country. I understood it much more now that I am old. If you didn't know people who lived then, don't judge. I did. My dad was born in 1898, told stories about working for his Uncle Sam in Montana when it wasn't a state. I knew some of his relatives who lived in those times.
I love the bear. He's been in a lot of movies and TV series. I don't think there is another like him.
From the historical records I've read, I think the film does a good job of encapsulating WW1.
It is very hard for people of the city life to understand the difference from now and then. Enjoy this movie for what it is. A romance full of the grief and troubles that afflict most humans.
