Being someone who dealt with a mentally abusive relationship, this book hit really close to home...its beautiful narrative encapsulates the feelings and cycles one goes through in a toxic relationship. All the confusion, feelings of being trapped in a cycle of coming and going with the other person, how it affects your other relationships—how the book represents these common factors is in such a carefully crafted way. Reading the novel made me so emotional from seeing the entire narrative unfold into hurt and friendship and relationships...this is one of the first books I could truly connect with.
The way the characters are presented and designed makes them so lovable and HIGHLY realistic and dynamic. I immediately adored the main cast because of how real they were (and I would honestly love having these characters as friends).
And, Laura Dean—I want to punch her in the face, but that’s a great thing! It only illustrates how amazingly well crafted she is and how she can drive so many feelings of anger from readers, and it’s the same for all the other characters. It’s one of my favorite aspects of this novel. This is actually my first ever graphic novel I’ve read, and now I’m inspired to read even more! Thank you.
