Ok there’s legitimately a review on here that states “my bedtime is at 10:30 so I couldn’t see the ending, but these are my thoughts...” If someone saw 60% of a movie and then writes a review they have 0 credibility. Anyway, I’m a huge fan of this story. Loved the 1st movie so much it’s the reason I read the book. The second movie felt a little rushed- but how could it not seeing as the book is 1200 pages- no matter what, you couldn’t fit all of those pages into a movie... nor could you fit the brilliance of Stephen King’s writing into a movie. I saw IT 2 with a group of friends who had not read the book- and many times throughout the movie I found myself thinking “this is probably terrible if you don’t know why this is happening”. For example, a weird zombie coming at Eddie and his mom with its tongue out... if you haven’t read the book you don’t know that IT takes the form of your biggest fear (and what’s more scary to a kid who is terrified of everything, especially sickness, than a leper trying to lick you?), and many scenes revolved around this idea. I wished the movie would dig deeper into the origin of IT. I knew the end would be tough to put into a movie- King’s writing is detailed and incomparable- but I think they could have done more to explain the scenes that did make it into the movie. It felt very rushed and lacked detail, but this book would have to be 5 movies (at least) to not feel that way. I’s impossible to put a book that took almost 5 years to write into 2 movies, so I think they did a good job. Casting was phenomenal. The Bill’s ( Hader and Skarsgard) were incredible. Perfect balance of humor, and edge-of-your-seat horror, it’s overall a good job. I don’t think it lives up to the success of the first movie, but it tells a story it needs to tell. Definitely recommend seeing.
