I wouldn't classify this book as young adult. I'd say it's middle school 8-12. If I'd gone into it expecting it to be a kids' book, I would've enjoyed it more. As YA, though, it was awful. The writing was very immature, the protagonist was a believable 11yr old (not 18 like she was meant to be), and the story was way too immature for YA-that 'climax' was ridiculous. Then, the constant use of cliche similies was very annoying!
Added to the immaturity of the writing in general, was a feminist agenda that makes NO SENSE! The WOMAN in charge of the hospital sells the patients, but somehow that translates to "men want to hurt girls"...? When a MALE is being forced into marriage, it's because of his family (not because he's a male), but when it's a FEMALE in the same circumstances, its because "women have no rights"??!!! Girl is gasslighted by many women and one man, and "men ignore women when they dont like what the woman's saying"....And so on. It was annoying!
But, yeah. It was a kids book. If you like kids books, go ahead, but you should know what you're picking up.
