Of course the original film of this title, staring Frank Sinatra and Sir Laurence Harvey is a classic. I have seen it numerous times throughout my life. So the first time I tried to watch the new film, I rejected it. I just couldn't get into it.
But I decided to give it a try just a couple nights ago, and I was blown away, and i loved the film. It cannot be said to be a remake, the tiitle is the same but that is all. The first film concerned POW's from the Korean War who were brainwashed by the Communist Chinese, in a camp in Manchuria.
The new film is about POWs from the Iraq War who are brainwashed by a South African mad scientist for an international corporation called Manchurian Enterprises.
The new film is a high tech masterpiece. It is shock full of political intrigue and flashback dream sequences Angela Landsbury's part as Shaws mother is now played perfectly by Meryl Steep in one of her creepiest lowkey performances yet.
I highly recomend this film, as it is top notch in every area, script, cinematography, acting and CGI special effects.
