The plot reaches way to far in timeline, science and number of characters to work. The special effects get repetitive while the dialogue goes from too much pontification to downright silly. The first half presents a bleak and violent Star Trooper story. The second half a simplistic and uninteresting conclusion. It’s nice that the estranged grandfather has a surplus C 17 sitting around and that a high school volcanophile has the expertise needed to save humanity.
