honestly i'd stop at saying this film was just Pretty Cool. kind of what i was expecting, just behind-the-scenes with the musicians––the kind of content you would recognize from their snapchat in like, 2017––which was charming to watch, their goofing around was nice, but it left something to be desired. felt like a clip-o-rama of the band's funniest moments or whatever. not a lot of interviews about the creative process. and not a lot of the character or art side either, which is pretty disappointing. it had SOME behind the scenes of Jamie's preliminary Ace sketches and him talking about obtaining Ace for a split second, but that was it. and somehow nothing about the Humanz mo-cap or any talk with the voice actors?? which i think i'm the most bummed about. i was excited about the potential of a Phil Cornwell interview :/
i think the part that was most impressive to me was the early 2000s footage of their featured artist on Latin Simone (also young Damon<3) playing behind Damon during a concert and him genuinely being surprised by seeing this footage for the first time. that was nice.
tbh, i think a lot of ppl are disappointed just because we've been waiting for a lore/character-heavy feature/show-length Thing for so long, and this experience wasn't bad, it was just somewhere in the middle.
I haven't seen Bananaz yet (I will soon!) but for those who don't know already, its another Gorillaz-related doc. maybe it has more of the content we wanted?? idk. check it out i guess.
