The book spanned generations and some characters died as others grew in and out of love. What a beautiful crafting together of not just the intricacies of family ties and obligation vis-a-vis one's charted path.Penmarric plucked at my heartstrings and brought a setting I was not familiar with so close to my heart that it felt like returning home after a long trip.

The film is a masterful play of controlled free will that brought with it such an authenticity to the Kenyan setting while showcasing such splendid Mise-en-scene. Even though Kahiu did just give us a taste of a happy ending, it's excusable compared to the uniquely bold and beautiful taste of the AFROBUBBLEGUM movement of fun and frivolous art for art's sake.
