Show is brilliant when you choose to ignore practicality and go for hype and poor choice of plot progression. Any good writer will cringe at the ease with which the professor is so in tuned with his surroundings and how he gets away with everything. At the beginning, the show is captivating. The professor is a master at brainwashing and predicting future occurrences. It keeps you entertained. But from a practical standpoint, very unrealistic.
Maybe I’m not familiar with Spanish police and their method of conducting business. But I don’t know to many high profile operations that an inspectors boyfriend is allowed to hang out at the crime scene like that, or have access that easy. Is there anything classified? I know writers create suspense, but it was all to easy. Interrogation of Tokyo was laughable. Helsinki and Oslo’s bond was not strong enough for Helsinki to destroy the bank manager, who made a bunch of hostages escape, yet Monica was ordered to be killed for something a bit pettier than that. A battalion of police with armored vehicles are defeated by a bunch first time robbers? Too many mistakes in relation to what a real world operation of a heist would seem. An inspector who constantly leaves her job to handle personal business, and is not punished for mishandling the relationship of a fellow employee. A mom does not have a cell phone contact to her daughter’s partner of 15 years, but would call to pass info to a new fling?
The genius ability to which the professor is awarded is very unreal. Inspector calls to go an sleep at professor’s house, he says he has prior arrangements, but beats inspector to her mom’s house, and spends a tremendous amount of time before she shows up, and just somehow, she doesn’t find it a bit creepy that the surprise engagement is for him to be at the house with flowers, waiting for her.
Finally, I don’t care how much of a genius you are, you cannot plan and be almost perfect predicting 80 DAYS of what everyone is going to do.
The show is entertaining, but painful to watch for anyone who thinks from a practical perspective. It is difficult to accept the writer’s twists and plots. Professor has every thought process of over 100 people, over a span of 80 days covered? A bit unreal.
Nonetheless, the camera work, acting and editing is good.
