Rating depends on view point. If one is trying to scare the kids half to death then, this would be a 5 star rating. Illustrations are well done (4 stars) and the stories are desperately insane, (5 stars)! As far as child phycology, it's a dismal 0! Read for yourself and then do your own rating. This was a gift to our first born given in good faith from Oma & Opa. We withheld reading this childhood teaching tool until both children were of age to discern (10-12 ish). Our first born was a Madchen Daumensauger (thumb sucker), needless to say we saved her the trauma.
