BE WARNED! This film is pure marmite. You'll either love it or hate it (as the majority 1 or 5 star ratings reveal 😄).
Reading the reviews it seems to settle along Conservative (1 star) or more Liberal (5 star) views.
Me, I loved it. A dead mother, having endured the abuses of a male dominated world, is given a second rebirth through her child, who takes on those same abusive environments but "owns" them, without ever becoming a victim. She embraces the world on her terms - from sexuality to social norms to ethics- and becomes a symbol of, not only feminist possibility, but also liberation for everyone trapped by cultural etiquette, class norms and conventions of social standing.
The costumes, stage-sets, digital imagery etc, are gorgeous and the steampunk world is magical and engrossing. It's unique, funny, disturbing and uplifting. A real gem❤️
