The fast and Furious franchise is underpinned by two key aspects. Number 1 - An emotional plot and Number 2 - Spectacular Visuals. In F9, the movie struggles to keep both intact. It appears like the character of Jakob was initially supposed to be a strong villain and then towards the end, a combination of Dwayne J and Paul W. Over-reliance on the strong electromagnet was offputting.
Being a very strong fan of the franchise, I wish the crew sharpen the script next time.
