It's deep philosophical scenes and ideas plus the action packed-typically seen cliche and genre makes it a lovely anime, at first early in the anime it seems like a typical mecha/shounen that would have little to no character development or plot advancement but later on one's the real wall breaker, good and evil, it becomes impossible to tell the difference and that allows you to fully sympathise every single character no matter which side they're on, not only that, but both sides leading characters are constantly shown and both very interesting, both seeking good and both seeking evil simultaneously, supported by its willingness to kill any character and it's complex plot structure that makes things to from hazy to "ohh, so that's why that happened," sense, everything links up in the end and said end sticks to the way the anime flowed, allowing you to depict wether it's happy or sad by your own opinion, opinion being the main plot of this anime,
